The Ultimate Commercial Cleaning Checklist for Facility Managers

Keeping a commercial property clean requires more than a weekly sweep. Here's the comprehensive checklist our Building Services division uses on every contract.

Maintaining a clean commercial facility is one of the most important responsibilities a facility manager carries. A dirty or poorly maintained building doesn't just look bad — it affects employee morale, client impressions, and even health and safety compliance. At RazorClean, our Building Services division has refined a comprehensive checklist over years of commercial contracts across the country.

Daily tasks form the backbone of any solid cleaning program. Every day, high-traffic areas like lobbies, hallways, and restrooms should be swept, mopped, and disinfected. Trash bins need to be emptied, surfaces wiped down, and glass entry doors cleaned of fingerprints and smudges. These small daily actions prevent buildup and keep the facility looking professional at all times.

Weekly tasks go deeper. Vacuuming carpeted areas, dusting horizontal surfaces including window sills and baseboards, sanitizing break room appliances, and cleaning interior glass partitions are all weekly priorities. Restrooms should receive a thorough scrub — not just a wipe — including grout lines, toilet bases, and behind fixtures.

Monthly tasks address the areas that are easy to overlook. Ceiling vents and air return grilles accumulate dust and should be wiped down. Light fixtures should be cleaned to maintain proper illumination. Floor wax or sealant should be inspected and refreshed as needed. Upholstered furniture in lobbies and conference rooms should be vacuumed and spot-treated.

Quarterly and annual deep cleans round out the program. Carpet extraction, hard floor stripping and recoating, exterior window washing, and pressure washing of entryways and loading docks are all tasks that protect your investment in the building and extend the life of surfaces and finishes.

The most important thing to remember is consistency. A checklist only works if it's followed every time. RazorClean's Building Services teams use digital sign-off systems to ensure accountability on every visit.
